Nofollow does not work anymore?

To read a more lengthy discussion on the recent nofollow update, read here.

Basically, the blog post is trying to point out that:

  • If you want to link to an external site but you dont want to pass PageRank (PR), add nofollow.
  • If your page has a PR of 10 and,
    1. you have 10 links on that page
    2. 5 of those links have nofollow
    3. 5 of those links do not have nofollow

What will happen is that the PR 10 will be evenly divided to all 10 links and will have 1 PR assigned to each, but only 5 links without the nofollow attribute will get the PR juice.

  • If you don’t want an internal page to appear on the search results, add nofollow.

Matt also recommends that instead of page sculpting, it’s best to add only the links on your homepage that’s important to you, not adding all links at one page and later controlling them using nofollow.
